KARACHI: Karachi Kings finally break the ice of inducting the Boom Boom star all-rounder Shahid Khan Afridi. He had earlier parted ways with his former team Peshawar Zalmi. Posting on the social media site Twitter Afridi tweeted:
‘’Won the cup with one team, Time for another. I am announcing my end of service as president & player of Peshawar Zalmi team due to my personal reasons.’’ Futhermore he added: ‘’My best wishes with Peshawar Zalmi and as far as my Peshawar fans are concerned I know they are with me wherever I go.’’
Afridi’s announcement to part ways with Peshawar Zalmi was not only a surprise for the Zalmi fans also for the Franchise owner himself. Mr. Javaid Afridi told the media:“I’m completely unaware of what happened,” when asked about the matter.
Afridi led Peshawar Zalmi in the very first season of PSL. He stepped down as skipper after being named as the president of the Franchise ahead of the second edition. The captaincy was handed to Darren Sammy former West Indies Captain.
So what could the possible reason be? All going well, being named as the President, being on the side of the winning team as Peshawar Zalmi stand victorious at the finale of this edition of the PSL, cheered victory like a boss in Lahore, what could possibly be wrong. That got to have gone wrong in between the PSL, otherwise he would have not accepted the title for the Franchise presidency.
The last time Afridi left in a silent controversial situation like this was way back in 2010 when Salman Butt was handed over the Captaincy after Afridi’s decision of stepping down. Later in the series a spot fixing scandal was the next big thing. Smart move to walk away and seal you lips back then and yet again.
Not to forget a spot fixing scandal was also the fuss after the first match of PSL 2017. Irfan, four other players namely Sharjeel, Khalif, Shahzaib Hasan and Nasir Jamshed were also suspended for their alleged involvement in the infamous spot-fixing scandal during the first week of the PSL. Irfan has been punished others are facing inquiry.
Quite a coincident, Afridi stepping down as Captain twice and spot fixing scandals are revealed in between.
